Intersectionality Theory: a Strength Based Approach
The L.E.A.D Conference is a one day knowledge based learning opportunity. This program will provide foundational knowledge for working in a mental health setting within a multi-disciplinary team. Information presented is rooted in the theoretical framework of Intersectionality Theory and a Strengths Based Approach.
We cannot resolve a problem with a problem focus. We must empower one another to take the lead in making mental health services for Deaf Canadians better. Together we will build trusting work relationships with the goal of working collaboratively to acheive mutually agreed upon goals.
We will pay particular attention to the application of theoretical knowledge through role play where we can support our colleagues towards sustainable changes in the way that we work.
Some topics we will explore:
-
Intersectionality Theory from a strength based approach: what are our available resources
-
Unique challenges in the field of mental health and deafness
-
An overview of years past and how we are moving forward
-
Role play of commonly experienced scenarios with group feedback and participation
This is a knowledge based program. ASL skill will not be assessed. Participants who complete this program will be awarded a certificate of attendance.
